Diy Deck Roof

Ta da ... It's 99% done! Haha. So, I say 99% because we ( loosely phrasing "we" to mean my Mr) still need to get the flashing completed. Plus, we had enough screws to get everything down but the edge pieces need to be more heavily secured.

So, here's how we made this happen. This is an extremely rough draft of what was done.
Attached boards to the vertical post that we had built off the deck. This will be support to the frame.

We used these brackets.

Then, further out we put up the boards that serve as frame. Notice that the board is being held up by a  quick piece of 2x4 that is c clamped! This is crazy, but it's what had to be done. We had two A-frame ladders and two extension ladders but still I'm just too short to be the support on the other end while Mr is screwing in the opposite side. This is the tall side of the roof so that's 16ft up. That's a lot of ladder.

Look at the temporary support just for the ladder! Insane! This is were I say - this was done by "professionals" and should not be tried at home.

We had to use a quick corner bracket ...

Climbed up and realized the bracket needed to be an inch and a half from the edge for the width of the board, sigh.

Frame is up and getting support boards.

Then the middle was strengthen with 2x4 ... Tip a 2x4 isn't really 2"

While at the highest point Mr got to work with cutting the tips of the vertical posts to match the right angle and height. It's better to trim it while it's up then cut it on the ground and maybe get it too short.

It's starting to straighten up:)

Our roof on the studio was built as plywood covered with metal. To match the height and give the metal more contact points for securing, Mr cut up plywood in three inch strips that went the width of the roof.

Notice support strips and the metal started going up.

The roof of the Cabin had an over hang that we are eliminating.

Using metal snippers Mr got to work.

And worked, and worked, and worked.

Flashing up and it's rain ready but not complete yet.

More updates to come. Till then keep it green, clean, and classy.
