Diy metal roofing Tutorial

Ok, I'm sure you're just dying to know how our sud shack is going :) well, I can report progress. Last Project Homestead Sud Shack I showed y'all how we framed everything up for the roof. Now, I'm sharing the actual roof.

First, you will need all the right tools for the project
Drill
Roofing screws
Roofing silicon
Corrugated metal
Flashing
Foam closures
Something to cut the flashing

Normally, I wouldn't go on and on about silicon but this stuff is amazing. It will literally stick to your fingers and y'all know how hands are oily and sweating so if it adheres to skin it will stick to anything. With silicon you get what you pay for, up grade it.
These are the foam closures and they are used at the ends of the roofing to fill the gaps between the corrugated peaks and valleys. We used the round, to match the pattern of our metal.

Use screws designed for roofing. ...get self tapping to save yourself a lot of trouble...They come with little rubber washers on them, but I recommend using the silicon on every screw. .... Also the picture on the screw box shows the screw in the valley of the roof, but that's incorrect. You need to screw into the peak. The water will be running in the valley so you don't want the screw there causing a potential leak.
Some plain garden shears work for cutting the closures and the flashing.

That strip covering the end is the flashing.

This was just round one, we covered it with larger flashing.

My green tip today is really just a topic, composting. Do some research today into composting and make a promise to start making a difference and join in the benefits of composting.

Remember, y'all can email me with questions - lakesidehomestead@gmail.com
Till next time y'all keep it green, clean, and classy.
